The 'sunshine' vitamin is one of the latest treatments for prostate cancer. Recent research found a close correlation between vitamin D deficiency and prostate cancer.
One study showed that men with higher levels of vitamin D obtained from sun exposure have lower risks of developing prostate cancer than those with lower amounts. Scientific tests have also proven that vitamin D inhibits cell growth.
Another study discovered that appropriate sunshine exposure could prevent 600,000 cases of colorectal cancer and breast cancer each year. There had been a huge number of studies that linked vitamin D deficiency and various types of cancer. It is recommended to get regular sunshine exposure at least 15 minutes per day with at least 40 percent of your body uncovered.
According to the results of European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition involving more than 11,000 men, increased intake of vitamin K2 may reduce the risks of prostate cancer by 35 percent. Many studies have posted potential health benefits of vitamin K for bone, blood, and skin. This recent study on prostate health adds up to the growing belief of the healing power of the said vitamin. More so, the potential benefits of K2 were most pronounced for advanced prostate cancer cases. Vitamin K has also been found beneficial in the fight against other cancers, including liver, colon, stomach, nasopharynx, oral cancer, and is also used for heart disease prevention.
A new study shows that coffee can lower the risk of developing the form of prostate cancer that usually results in death. Lorelei Mucci was the senior researcher on this study. She's an associate epidemiologist in the Department of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital.
Mucci's team followed 47,911 men who kept track of their coffee consumption from 1986 to 2008. Men with the highest coffee consumption had 60 percent lower risks of developing lethal form of prostate cancer. Men who drank six or more cups a day had 20 percent reduced risk of any form of prostate cancer. Even those who took one to three cups a day corresponded to 30 percent drop in the risk of lethal prostate cancer.
The compounds found in coffee, quinine, magnesium, and trigonelline, are said to be responsible for the positive results. These compounds cut inflammation and manage insulin. Coffee also contains antioxidants that fight free radicals and prevent cell-damaging oxidation. Researchers found that both regular and decaffeinated coffee provide the same reduction rate in prostate cancer risks.
